Kalam is probaly praised too much, but he deserves a great deal of appreciation nevertheless. More than his scientific achievements, I like his personality and the way he managed to impress upon the population without fan-fare. The current vice president and other possible replacement make me very sad. If he indeed goes, it will take a long time for me to respect the President's post again.
